Americans Embrace Walkable Communities!

New study shows how people are embracing walkable communities when planning where to buy a home. The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) just unveiled the results of its 2023 Community & Transportation Preferences Survey. The survey revealed that most people want to live in communities where they can walk!

People Want to Walk to Shops, Parks: 79% of respondents revealed that living within an easy walk of shops, parks, and other spots is a game-changer when deciding where to settle down. And you know what? 78% of those folks are willing to pay a bit more to experience the convenience and accessibility of a walkable community.

Sidewalk Maintenance Matters: a whopping 85% of participants emphasized the importance of well-maintained sidewalks and safe walking areas. They want to strut their stuff confidently, enjoy the outdoors, and lead active lifestyles. Who needs to be stuck in traffic when you can explore your neighborhood on foot?

Being Close to Public Transportation: For 65% of respondents, having access to convenient public transportation is a top priority. Say goodbye to stressful commutes and hello to efficient and eco-friendly options that let you leave the car behind.

Single-Family Home or Alternative?:  53% of respondents would prefer townhouses, condos, and apartments if that means being close to shops, restaurants, and having a short commute to work. But the allure of a single-family home in the suburbs has not gone out of style. 47% of participants still love the idea of a detached home, even if it means a bit more driving to access the urban delights.
